Editor's Verdict:

I'm InTouch is a fully featured remote access solution suitable for either home or business use. It certainly offers everything a home user would need in a remote access tool, but businesses may be put off by the lack of auditing and logging tools. However, the software offers one or two features that aren't found in many similar products so it is definitely worth a look.

The main functionality of I'm InTouch (accessing a PC remotely as if you were sitting in front of it) works very well and is all that many people will need from the software. However, there are plenty of other useful features to be found which can come in useful at different times. For example you can invite up to 10 guests to remotely watch your screen, perhaps to give a demonstration of some software or to give a presentation. It is also easy to transfer files between remote computers and print documents from them on a local printer.

One of the more unique features is the remote wake up function which can cause a PC that has been powered down to start back up and become accessible. There are limitations on it however, in that first of all the PCs network card must support 'wake up on LAN' and there must be another PC on the same network which is accessible to I'm Intouch. The software will then take control of the accessible PC and cause it to send a wake up signal to the powered down one. This is probably a feature more useful to business users who are more likely to have other accessible PCs on the same local network.

Setting up I'm InTouch is a straightforward process and even computer novices should manage it. Once the client software has been installed on the PCs you want to access, you simply visit the I'm InTouch login page via your web browser and select the PC to access. These are protected with two levels of password control and any communications are encrypted so that intruders cannot see what you are doing.

Whether you go for the standard edition, which is suitable for most home users, or the premium version, which adds some extra features that might be useful for businesses, I'm InTouch is pretty good value for money. There are other very similar solutions out there too so it's worth having a look around, but we think you won't go too far wrong with I'm InTouch.
